2018 was a pretty good year for me. I got married and The Husband finally moved to this side of the world.
But also reading wise it was a good year. I read 103 books, a total of 35.813 pages, both new records for me. The shortest book I read was Tigerlilja (60 pages), while the longest with 1248 pages was, of course, Oathbringer. The average rating I gave my books in 2018 was an 3.8, slightly lower than last year but I am still very happy with it.
At the start of the year I set my reading goal to 36 books… which I already passed in May. I deliberately set it quite low (for me) seeing as I didn’t know how busy my year was going to be with work and the wedding.
Another goal I set myself was to (re)read all of Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes. I did this via audiobook, brilliantly narrated by Stephen Fry. I loved the whole series, and I am very happy I finally put some time aside to read it.
I also wanted to read more non-fiction. I guess I accomplished this, having read 4 (which is more than last year). It is not as many as I’d hoped though.
My next goal was to create an owned-tbr shelf on Goodreads, which I did and am keeping up. I have now also put these books aside on my ‘real life’ shelves and it is very nice to have an good overview of all the books I still want to read.
I wanted to make beter use of Kobo Plus and Netgalley. I failed in doing so with my Kobo Plus, and cancelled this halfway through the year. I have started to use Netgalley a lot more, and have read 11 books from there now, and have one currently waiting for me. I especially enjoy picking up graphic novels from there.
Another goal was to clean up my Goodreads Want to Read list. I did this throughout the year in my Down the TBR Hole posts. This was very successful and I took 57 books I was no longer interested in reading of the list.
A goal I repeated from 2017 was to continue/catch up/finish more series than I started. I started 27 new series, of which 3 didn’t have a sequel when I read it (so I also caught up with them). I continued 10 series, to which I read 19 books. I also finished 13 series.
And my last goal was to be less strict in my Superhero Reading Challenge. I failed this… as in I completed the challenge in august (and usually I just just make it). But it did leave me with a lot of time in which I could read whichever I wanted without having to think about if it would fit for one of the reading prompts. So in that sense it was a succes 😀
Overall I am very happy with my reading last year. I read more than ever, and enjoyed most of the books I picked up.
Hoping you are having a lovely day,
